Semodi’s remix is an edgy reinterpretation of MARIA Die RUHE’s original record ‘DANCE OR WE ARE LOST’. Having sprinkled techno tropes and layered syncopated hi-hats over a loop of MARIA’s infectious chorus lyric, the producer intensifies the quirky avant-garde undertone, using retro filters to push and pull her vocal across the mix while deep, thumping kicks hammer against crunchy basslines and harmonic plucks.
Semodi tells us how his remix came together: “The original mix of DOWAL already has super nice vocals and very relatable lyrics, so I felt I had to add a kick-ass bass line to really make you want to dance. Also, I wanted to give the vocals a musical context that really embraces the message of the track in the final drop.
So I created some epic synth pads that made me feel this yearning for salvation in dancing.”
